You may be confused by all the choices you see when shopping for an HVAC system. What system should you get? How big should it be? What features does it need? With new products on the market everyday, the shopping experience can be frustrating. If that is happening to you, the tips below will assist you in getting the system you need and much more!
Before you call someone to help you fix your system, be sure to know what sort of system you have in place. Look for the maintenance history and brand and model. This will facilitate the process when your contractor asks for this information.
Tour your home before calling a contractor. Note which rooms are hot and which are cold. This will help the repairman determine what the problem is.
Each spring it’s time to clean the inside of your condenser unit, including the fan and the sensitive coil. For safety, always turn the power off first. Then remove the grill, remove the blades and clean it from top to bottom gently.
When you’re trying to cut your grass, don’t cover a unit outside with the clippings. Aim the grass clippings in the other direction. Do the same when blowing snow or leaves.
Your HVAC system could suffer when trees begin dropping their leaves. When you see nearby trees shedding their leaves, clean the fan grill on your unit constantly. Because the fan requires a clear path for air to enter, you may encounter issues with your system if the fan gets blocked up.
If the fan condenser on your unit has ports for oil, make sure you lubricate it once a year. You’ll find these ports are covered with a metal or rubber cap. Pick a type of SAE 20 oil that is non-detergent and lightweight. Place 10 or less drops into every port to avoid overfilling.
It can be a little confusing at first; choosing an HVAC system, but tips like these should clear the air. That decision just became a little bit easier though, now that you have the advice of experts in hand. Take time to review the tips and use them to find a unit that will make your home enjoyable and comfortable all year.
