HVAC contracting and service is not an area with which everyone is intimately familiar. When a problem arises, though, you must know what to do. Fortunately, the information that follows can help any homeowner find the information they need.
Inspect the temps in your home before you call a service to help you with any HVAC issues you’re having. While you are walking through the house, gauge which rooms are the coolest and which are the warmest. This can help the contractor determine the problem areas quickly and fix the problem easily.
Help the outside condenser fan run efficiently by cleaning the coils and fan blades before the summer starts. If you are doing more than a light surface cleaning, make sure that the power is shut off to the HVAC unit. Also, make sure you remove any debris or leaves from the condenser unit outside.
You should clean your condenser fan’s blades and coils every spring. Start by turning off the power to avoid having anything move when you work on it. Then, pop off its grills, pull the blades out, and begin cleaning the unit and them gently.
As the leaves are falling off the trees, your HVAC system can really take a hit. Clean the fan grill often when leaves are falling. Otherwise, the unit will have to work unnecessarily hard.
Many homeowners forget to oil their condenser at least once per year, but it is required. You can easily find the ports as they have a rubber or metal cap. Use a lightweight oil and do not overfill them.
If you need to decide the best place to put your outdoor compressor unit, consider putting it in a location that is in the shade. If you have a unit taking in air that’s cooler, it won’t have to work so hard to cool air that it sends to your home.
Your HVAC unit requires regular maintenance at least two times per each year. The normally recommended time for HVAC system inspections is once before the peak cooling season when it gets hot and you’ll be using your AC, and once before the peak heating season, during the cold months when you’re likely to be using your heat. This will help you to avoid problems.
Dealing with a broken HVAC system is a nightmare every homeowner dreads. However, if proper research is done prior to situations that demand attention, the process becomes much simpler. Use the information given here to handle any future HVAC situation with ease.
