Many people think dealing with the HVAC is tough work. It does not have to be that way. This can be made easier with the following advice.
Prior to putting in a service call on your HVAC, be able to identify it. Know what the manufacturer’s name is, which particular model you have and what’s gone on with the unit in the past. This will give contractor’s a better idea of what to expect before they show up, which will help things go more smoothly on arrival.
If you have some problems with the HVAC system, check out your home before calling a contractor. Make a list of the temperatures in each room and whether they are hot or cold. This gives the repairer a starting point to work from.
What do you need done? Know this before calling a contractor. If you can’t describe the problem, you may not get an accurate quote. If you are unable to explain the work that needs to be taken care of, the conversation will be even less fruitful. Make an effort to gather all information you need before making the phone call.
Outside Condenser
Keep outside condenser fans running smoothly by cleaning fan blades and coils before the summer begins. Turn off your power before doing any job like this. The outside condenser unit should be kept free of leaves and other debris.
Regularly remove debris from outside condenser units. The dirt could pile up and harm your system. Also, you are risking your system overheating.
During the fall, leaves can gather around your HVAC. Frequently clean the fan grill when trees are shedding leaves. Otherwise, the unit will have to work unnecessarily hard.
Be sure to have twice annual HVAC system checks. Generally, you want it done in the fall and the spring. Even if you can’t see anything wrong, checking it may help you locate and repair some possible issues.
Pane Windows
If you are a home owner, replace whatever single pane windows you have with more efficient double-paned versions. Good double pane windows keep cool air in during the summer and minimize your utility expenses. Likewise, in the winter more hot air stays inside during the cold season.
If you’re away from home during the day, raise the temperature setting on your air conditioner to save money. The house will heat up, but not too much. If the A/C is on when you’re gone, it’ll be working hard constantly.
HVAC can become simple of you use the tips found above. Without going over the tips, it is very tricky to figure out an HVAC system on your own. Get started now and you’ll do great!
