When thinking of HVAC, it may seem like it’s impossible to learn a lot about it at first. If you take your time, it’s not that hard. What follows is great advice for you to follow.
If you have some problems with the HVAC system, check out your home before calling a contractor. Determine which rooms are hotter or colder than they should be. If you do this, it will be a great help to the future contractor, who will now be able to quickly locate the problem issue.
Keeping the outside condenser clean of debris and leaves will improve the system’s efficiency. Before you clean the unit, be sure to turn off the power. Clean off any leaves or debris from your external condenser unit.
Be sure to clean external condenser units regularly. The dirt could pile up and harm your system. This can lead to overheating.
When you cut the grass, make sure your mower isn’t tossing clippings toward your outdoor units. Instead, make sure that the grass is shooting in the opposite direction. The same should happen if you are blowing leaves, so be especially careful when you are going by your exterior HVAC devices whenever you are moving debris.
As the leaves are falling off the trees, your HVAC system can really take a hit. Frequently clean the fan grill when trees are shedding leaves. If your fan is obstructed, it can keep your system from working properly.
It is very important that your HVAC system is serviced two times a year. The best times to have the system checked is spring and fall, so you are sure everything is running at peak performance before the heating and cooling seasons. A quick check is worth it to avoid problems down the road.
When it gets cold outside, turn off the outdoor condensers. This should be done when the temperature drops below 60ºF to avoid damage. This will ensure your system stays in good working order every year, saving you money on costly repairs.
If you can, install double-paned windows throughout your home. During the summer, the use of double-pane windows will help keep the cool air locked inside of the home. They help in the winter, too, keeping the heat in.
Regular maintenance of your unit should be performed annually. During your service visit, the serviceman will inspect the unit’s motor, oil the unit’s moving parts and ensure the unit has proper freon levels. These easy to do things are going to allow your system to run its best.
If everyone is out, turn the air conditioner off. You may want to turn your unit off if your house will not become extremely hot or cold. If will be constantly fighting the heat and using lots of electricity if it is left on all day.
Never allow your home to get dangerously hot inside. Expect an air conditioning unit to drop the temperature down 20 degrees within a short amount of time. So, if you house heats up to about 95, you won’t see the temperature go below 75 for a while. This can still be way too warm for you.
If you have an interest in HVAC, the previous information should not have been terribly difficult for you to understand. Apply this advice and you will be in great shape. If you use them wisely, you may find you have learned enough to make money doing it.
