An HVAC system that’s good will be a welcome addition to any home, but ones that don’t work well can cause trouble. They will cost you a lot of money. It’s generally an all-around good idea to study as much as you can about HVAC maintenance and upkeep. The following tips will provide you some great info to get you started.
Get all of the details regarding a broken system before calling for repair. Write down the make, model, and any maintenance history. Your contractor will appreciate this information.
The coils and blades on the fans should be cleaned once a year. Be sure to turn the power off first; you don’t want anything to move. Take the grill off and pull the blades out to clean them.
Cover your unit when you are mowing the lawn. Have the grass shoot in the opposite direction. Also do this when blowing leaves or shoveling snow.
During the fall, leaves can gather around your HVAC. When you see nearby trees shedding their leaves, clean the fan grill on your unit constantly. When blockages restrict the flow of air to the fan, you could end up with serious issues on your hands.
If the condenser fan has oil parts, then you need to lubricate it at least once per year. You will see rubber or metal caps covering the ports. Get an oil that is SAE 20 and put about 10 drops into each port, but don’t overfill it.
Find a place that is shaded for your compressor. If your unit is sucking in cooler air, it will have less work to do to cool that air as it sends it inside which boosts efficiency.
If possible, put your HVAC in a shaded area if it is outside. As it brings in cool air to cool, you will save a lot of money.
