Lubricate your condenser yearly if it has oil ports. These ports are typically covered with caps made of metal or rubber. Pick a type of SAE 20 oil that is non-detergent and lightweight. Place 10 or less drops into every port to avoid overfilling.
Make certain that an outdoor unit is in the shade. When the unit sucks in cooler air, then less work is required to cool it further which in turn boosts the units efficiency.
Put outdoor condensers in the shade. As your air conditioner sucks in cool air, little will have to be done to cool it any further, saving you a ton on your energy bills.
When the weather starts to cool down, make sure you turn off outdoor condenser units. This means that you should turn it off to prevent damage if the weather falls under 60 degrees Farenheit. This helps your system remain in good working order.
Replace single pane windows by installing double pane, if possible. Double-pane windows keep inside air cooler, allowing you to reduce AC usage in the summertime. This same effect also keeps warm air in during the winter months.

Don’t let your house get too hot. Air conditioners can only really cool your home down 20 degrees or so within a reasonable time period. This means that if the weather is above 100 degrees, then you’ll still be baking in 80 degree weather at first! Depending on how humid the environment is, that is not a healthy temperature for the human body when it rests during sleep.
